We fight #becauseofKarson and those like him. Karson is one of the fortunate ones. He will carry the scars from his battle, but he is here; he is healthy. We are blessed. But what about all of the others? #howwillyouhelp? The global incidence of childhood cancer is increasing, and sadly, as much as 80% of childhood cancer is diagnosed too late for treatment ~ or the treatment doesn’t exist. Over 105,000 children will die this year. . . Childhood cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in children in the US. Federal budget cuts could mean that even the measly 4% or less, that childrens cancer has received in the past from the federal government, is at risk of being even lower, or completely taken away. #wemustdobetter 86-89% of funds raised through Hope for Miracles will go directly to childhood cancer research ~ research for lifesaving cures and treatments. 10% of funds raised will go to Pediatric Oncology programming at the UVM Children's Hospital. Today, on World Cancer Day, take a moment to remember those you know/have known ~ The survivors, those fighting, those lost and their families. Take a moment to offer up a prayer or a wish in their honor. Add an extra one that we see an end to this suffering in our lifetime. For all of you who support us, we truly wouldn't be where we are today without you. Never doubt your capacity to change the world, one small act of kindness and support at a time. We love you all. Let's remember that when we choose to come together; when we collectively take action ~ We CAN make a difference. Word of the Year 2025 ~ While Karson, Keira & I were brainstorming on the word for this year, it was Keira who was so confident in her choice that she walked up to us, said, “Our word is ‘Thrive’.”, and swished her hair over her shoulder as she walked away… Like it was a foregone conclusion that this was our word. She was right, and I love how she did it with such fiery conviction and faith. Thrive ~ to grow and flourish; to progress toward our goal of raising funding for childhood cancer research - despite circumstances; to succeed; to do well in a situation you are given; to show resilience; to be mindful, successful, strong and healthy. Yes… This word is so very fitting. This year, we as a family, and we at Hope for Miracles, will Thrive ~ with your help! We will thrive through the storms that try to pull us off course. We will thrive through the storms that try to dampen our spirits and say we’ll never do it. We will thrive through the storms that make it feel like we are taking three steps back for every one step forward. We will thrive; and never give up! May we do it with brazen courage and poise, and without fear to speak up and speak out, just like Keira. Let us all ‘Thrive’ in 2025.
