Such a good day… So many blessings and so many angels around us. #somepeopleareangels #blessedandgrateful A Day in the Life of Karson – Day 37 Karson starts his day literally jumping out of bed. As he’s jumping he says in a loud and excited voice, “We can go home today!!!”. The first thing he does is call his father to tell him we’ll be leaving soon. I ask him what he wants for breakfast, it’s really early – a little after 6:00am in the morning – he doesn’t want anything, it’s too early (neither of us are able to eat first thing in the morning ever, so especially not today when we are so excited to go home). By 7:00am we are out front waiting for our Uber. Our flight this morning leaves from Long Island so we have a long ride, about an hour and fifteen minutes; Karson is able to sleep through some of it. Our PALS pilot is already there and waiting; another great guy – all of these pilots donate their time and the use of their planes; pretty amazing. It’s a beautiful day and the flight is great; Karson enjoys it. We have a perfect landing; we exit the plane and take pictures with the pilot – he even lets Karson sit in the pilot seat and shows him the levers to fly the plane and how they work. We learn that his family has just come up from Washington and he’s here with us; I wish him a safe flight back and thank him for his selflessness – I hope he is able to enjoy some time with his family when he returns. Karson doesn’t want to go home; he wants to see his Dad – he’s working – so we head straight to Lake Placid with no stops – the girls are with Cole as well. About 10 minutes into the car ride, Karson starts crying; sobbing. It scares me because he hasn’t cried like this in quite some time; and it’s not a cry of pain. I ask him why he’s crying and he cries harder and says he misses his Dad – it breaks my heart. I tell him to let it out; to cry all he needs to, because soon he’s going to get to see Daddy and hug him. We finally park in the drive way of the house that Cole is working at. Before I can even get my seatbelt off, Karson is out, and doing his best to run. I quickly grab my phone and run myself – I can’t miss this reunion. As I’m running, the girls are running toward us too. While Karson is finally hugging his Dad, the girls are hugging me; so glad to be back home. Cole is working on a boat house on Lake Placid and we are able to stay and swim. It’s a beautiful day out on the water. We end a great day at the Youth Center/Park in Wilmington. Karson is surprised with a welcome home parade – it was fantastic!!! I was worried how he would react – he and I are very similar – we do not like to be the center of attention; but he soaks it up and enjoys every second, with a huge smile on his face. He looks at us after and beams and tells us, “That was so awesome!”. The parade is followed by a front row parking spot at the movie ‘Sand Lot’. We have set Cole’s truck up with piles of blankets and pillows to lay back and watch the movie. I won’t lie – I fell asleep about 20 minutes in – being back home and with the girls, I’m at peace and am able to sleep. Karson is wide awake and soaks up every minute. We are blessed. Where did we see God; the light in the darkness? 1. I see him shining through Karson - Every. Single. Day. 2. In the kindness of the PALS Pilot who took time away from his family to help us out. 3. Seeing Karson’s joy in being home. 4. In all who participated in the ‘Welcome Home’ parade for Karson. 5. That we are home safely ~ I just can’t say it enough; we are so glad to be home. 6. In those who brought gifts for Karson - you made him feel so special. 7. I’m sure I am missing some, but again, all that I have shared in these last 36 days should be sufficient. If not, see #8. 8. If you don’t see God’s hand in any of this today, I’ll have more ways to convince you tomorrow. We want to send a great big ‘Thank You’ to the Au Sable Forks, Upper Jay, Keene & Wilmington Fire Departments as well as Michelle Preston, Robbie Lincoln, Jennifer Whitney and Mike Hendry & Trevor Symonds from the NYSP. You are all amazing! There are videos in the comments - it wouldn’t let me add them with the pictures in this post. #NYSP #PALS #becauseofkarson #fuckcancer #beatthe4% #wemustdobetterthanthis #hopeformiracles #neuroblastoma #neuroblastomaresearch #mskkids #uvmchildrenshospital Today was the last day of basketball camp for my warrior.
